Working in Partnership
Australian Customs Service, a high profile Federal Government Agency, had identified the need for a business focussed management and leadership intervention for its supervisory staff located across Australia.
The Australian Customs Service undertook extensive research to identify the skills gaps apparent in the organisation and following this analysis designed and developed a program as part of its integrated leadership development strategy encompassing all levels of the business.
Following the roll-out of a number of pilot programs by internal staff, Customs sought expressions of interest from learning and development organizations to partner it in the delivery of the program throughout Australia.
Australia-wide Business Training (awbt) responded to the request and was awarded a 3 year contract to work with Customs. awbt assembled a team of highly skilled facilitators who not only held the specialist qualifications required, but also had outstanding facilitation skills, extensive management experience across industry sectors and the ability to coach internal facilitators during the face to face components of the program.
The program was enthusiastically received by Customs staff with one staff member commenting “What an eye opener! From day 1 to 5 it has been an amazing journey of self awareness and discovery. I want to be a leader and lead with confidence now. I have gained a clearer understanding and good effective leadership techniques I can use to be better team leader and role model. The program has boosted my confidence because I feel more equipped to tackle the challenges of a leadership role”
The program continues to be fine tuned and rolled out in partnership across Australia to groups of enthusiastic participants.
