Becoming an Employer of Choice in the Aged Care Industry

TLC, a Victorian based Aged Care organisation was looking to elevate the role of the registered nurse from purely the provision of care and nursing to leadership and management.

The organisation believed that with the tightening of the labour market and the implications of the war for talent this was an opportunity to recognize the value employees brought to the business.

In particular the organisation was seeking to maintain a recruitment and retention advantage by providing its nursing and other senior staff with personal career growth.

Following consultation with awbt surrounding the options available to the organisation, it selected the Diploma of Business (Frontline Management) to help equip their nursing and administration staff with the leadership skills required to meet the challenges of best practice, increased competition and the increased complexities of work.

As such the organisation selected a number of nursing and administration staff, who were increasingly being required to lead and educate others to undertake the program.

The program was enthusiastically received by all staff with one staff member commenting that ‘the Frontline Management Diploma has given me the opportunity to reflect on my current management skills in a work specific environment. I have gained strength from identifying where my management skills support every member of the team and how this in turn has a positive impact on the care the residents receive.

With the success of the first program the organisation is keen to promote its value across the group.
